An active Methodist congregation was established at Benn's by 1789, as verified by the Virginia Annual Conference Historical Society. A church historian concluded that Benn's was originally known as Concord Meeting House. In 1964, a citation was presented to Benn's Methodist Church in recognition of 175 years of service to God and to the people of this community.
The founding members of Benn's and their ancestors had been members of Newport Parish Church, long known as St. Luke's Church, located a few hundred yards to the north of Benn's. Construction of St. Luke's concluded in the 1680s, but local tradition holds that the church has roots that are as early as 1632.
George Benn, who owned the property on which Benn's stands, erected the first house of worship for the congregation in 1800. Small wood siding churches replaced the original in 1828 and 1888. The present brick building was built in 1924. An education wing was added in 1967 and the Family Life Center was completed in 1993.

In 2019, Benn’s church received an updated look by replacing its old roof with a new green metal roof that should last for decades to come.

During the COVID pandemic of 2020 the entryway steps and walkway to the Sanctuary were improved for safety and appearance.
