Sunday School

Two of the adult Sunday School classes have

returned to in person Sunday school at 10:00 am.

The Woody Crook class will meet in the Family

Life Center and the Seekers’ class will be in the

classroom on the other side of the sanctuary. The

Mom’s Connect class and children’s Sunday School will return in the fall. WE NEED TEACHERS FOR Sunday School classes!! The materials are provided and easy to follow and fun and you will enjoy getting to know our younger members!

Watermelon Feast and Pickle Time!

The Chancel Choir sponsored Watermelon Feast and rind-cutting is set for Sunday, August 8 at 4 pm in the FLC (pending approval by Council) followed by pickle-making on August 9 and 10. Donations of bags of granulated sugar, pint canning jars (don’t have to be new) and new regular lids/rings will be greatly appreciated. More details to follow. Call Sam Patrick (357-3310) for preorders or to volunteer to help, or the Church Office (357-3373).

Acolytes and Readers Needed

We are in need of acolytes and readers for the 11:00 service and readers for the 9:00 am service. If you are interested, please contact Ann Woleben
(awoleben46@gmail.com or 757-238-2520), Anne
Edwards (annreyne@yahoo.com or 357-5970) or the office. There would be a brief training session (following CDC guidelines).

Video Recording Volunteers

We are in need of video helpers for the 9:00

service.. We are using a cell phone and a tripod, so

it is easy!! If you would like to try it, call the office, 357-3373.

Offering Counters

Would you like to be an offering counter? You

only are committed to one Sunday a month. Please

let the office or Brita Mizelle

(ibasassymomma@yahoo.com) know if you would

be interested. You would be paired with a partner

and trained.

Altar Flowers
Since we are now having more in person worship, we would like to have flowers for the altar. A sign up sheet is on the bulletin board outside the office or you can email bennsumc@yahoo.com your request for certain dates and if it is in honor or in memory of someone.

We now have several options for making donations: You can mail in your check, use your bank’s Bill Pay option. Also, new is the “donate” button found on our website! For those that would like to donate stock or capital gains from their IRA accounts, please call the church office.

Kits for Conference

Instead of collecting the usual Kits for Conference,

we will collect school supplies for our local schools. What they have asked for are: glue sticks, highlighters, and dry erase markers, Round tip scissors, 24-count crayons, 100-200 count pack of notebook paper (wide or college–ruled), pencils (Unsharpened), 2” or larger erasers, and composition books.

We are also collecting supplies for The Genieve

Shelter (www.thegenieveshelter.org) Trash bags-

13 gallon – unscented; paper towels, toilet paper,

cleaning products, Laundry detergent and bleach,

Light bulbs 60 watts, Washcloths, Bath towels,

Lysol Cans, Plastic Cups, Dish detergent, Batteries

all sizes, Gas gift cards for the clients; Office

supplies (copy paper, pens, paperclips, folders,

staples, staplers), Paper plates, Plastic containers to store food, Cooking Seasonings for food,

Perishable & nonperishable food, Sippy cups for

the toddlers, Cooking oil, Vinyl gloves for

cleaning (all sizes), Vinyl twin mattress covers,

Twin bed comforters, Pillows, Twin blankets,

Mops /brooms, Healthy Snacks, Pull- ups (all

sizes), Baby Wipes, and Umbrellas.

Benn’s will be a collection site for other churches

in Isle of Wight on June 19th from 2:00-4:00 pm. But you can drop off your donations anytime.

Red Cross Blood Drive

The Smithfield Community Blood Drive will be

Thursday, July 22nd from 12:00 -6:00pm at Trinity United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Go online to set up an appointment. Benn’s UMC will be the sponso.r We will have prepackaged snacks and bottled water (provided by the Red Cross). Weneed the following: 3 volunteers for the first shift, 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.; 2 volunteers from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.; and 2 volunteers from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30p.m.

Food Pantry

Beans, peas, corn, soup, peanut butter, canned meat, pasta, cereals, etc. COP needs all of these things. YOU can make a difference!! The shelves at COP have been bare this month and with schools closed kids will be home and hungry. Donations may be

left in the bin right inside the door that leads to the office.
