A Disciple’s Path study

Aug 13, 2019 by

Rev. Betsy will be leading a study called A Disciple’s Path, an engaging approach to discipleship from a distinctly Wesleyan perspective. Whether you are a new member or an existing member looking for a renewal course, this six-week program (plus an introduction) will guide you to take the next step in discipleship and become a dynamic, engaged follower of Jesus Christ.

The study combines a Wesleyan understanding of our growth in God’s love and grace with the time-tested practices of spiritual discipline expressed in the membership vows to uphold the church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Participants will develop spiritual practices, discover their unique gifts, and become engaged in ministry that brings transformation in their own lives, the lives of others, and the world.

There is an introductory Session, “What Does It Mean to Be a United Methodist?” Then 6 hour long sessions. 1: A Disciple’s Path Defined; 2: Prayer and Scripture Meditation; 3: Presence: Corporate Worship and Small-group Community; 4: Gifts: Financial Generosity; 5: Service: Spiritual Gifts and Gifts-based Service; and 6: Witness: Invitational Evangelism

New members know they are urged to attend. But it’s also open to anyone. If they can let us know by Aug. 31, then we can order books and start the week of Sept. 15 and finish on Oct. 22 or 23.

There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside the office. Please indicate if you would prefer an evening or daytime for the class.  You may also call the church office at 757-357-3373.
